This has been an incredible year for GiveLoveAway in 2011.  We are blown away by the generosity of volunteers in the community.  This out pour of love has changed lives, melted hearts, and given hope to those in need.

The volunteers of GiftHope made a huge impact this holiday season.  To start, for Thanksgiving this year, The Pantry fed over 500 families through GiftHope.  Hope-To-Go prepared and delivered 500 meals to homeless and nearly homeless people in our community, and also to the Douglasville Fire Dept, Douglasville Police Dept, and Douglas County Sheriff Dept.  Warm meals for these families put more than just a smile on their faces.

GiftHope also had several Christmas projects.  For Christmas, Gift of Love helped 200 persons through donations received through GiftHope.

Also, hundreds of volunteers shared Christ’s love by providing blankets, covering medical costs, and visiting with special needs individuals at MR
Group Home, and we handed out other food items to these people in need.  The impact was huge.

The Hope Tree project provided gifts for 450 children through 350 volunteers.  These children would not have received gifts for Christmas without these volunteers.

Adopt-A-Family helped provide Christmas for over 75 families, consisting of 3 to 15 family members, with 62 sponsors. We estimate a total of 300 children will receive Christmas this year. Additionally, some of the families have received emergency food items, utility bill payments, rent, and medical transportation from the sponsors.

Senior Stockings provided 500 stockings filled with personal items to senior citizens in nursing homes, as well as an afternoon of visitation and love provided by 100 families and youth.

A total of over 2,500 people will receive the Gift of HOPE this Thanksgiving and Christmas season!  And we also estimate a total of $21,000 has been gifted to people in need this season through GiftHope.  Wow!

What an awesome way to share love with others!  What a blessing it is to be a part of life-change!  Thanks to all the incredible volunteers for their big hearts, for serving those in need, and for loving those in our community.

Imagine what we can do next year as we GiveLoveAway in 2012!  Next year, we will continue to reach more and more people for Christ and make a huge kingdom impact as we continue to give and serve!

The holidays are a time of year where most of us celebrate greatly. We look forward to wonderful meals at Thanksgiving and exchanging gifts at Christmas. It’s a joyous time where we express our thankfulness to God for all he has given us and celebrate the birth of our Hope. But everyone does not share this excitement. The holidays can be a time of loneliness, depression, and despair. It can be a time lacking any hope.  Together this year, we are going to giftHOPE to our community as we give away the love of Christ.

Thanksgiving Projects:
Gift of Love Project: REGISTER ONLINE
A $50 donation will feed a family for not just Thanksgiving Dinner but also for the entire 9 days children are out of school.

Hope To-Go: REGISTER ONLINE
On Thanksgiving morning, teams will cook, prepare, and deliver hot meals to those unable to provide a  meal for themselves. Volunteer teams needed to cook food, prepare food, provide maps for delivery, and deliver food.

Christmas
Hope Tree:  REGISTER ONLINE
Volunteers will purchase ($25 or less), wrap, and return gifts to Crossroads Church.  The gifts will benefit C.A.M.P., a local ministry partner serving more than 900 children this Christmas.

Senior Stockings:  REGISTER ONLINE
Volunteers purchase various toiletries (list provided), assemble them in Christmas stockings, and deliver during a Christmas event for a local Senior Center.

Giving Hope to people during the holidays!

On Sunday, November 6, we will launch holiday GiveLoveAway outreaches called giftHOPE. There are multiple projects centered around Thanksgiving and Christmas designed to provide hope and the love of Jesus Christ during what can be a difficult time for many people. Our desire is that every individual/family/small group pick at least one project and get involved. Registration will begin November 6 for all projects.

Thanksgiving

The donations bins have been overflowing with coats.  Here are few photos of our collection day this past Friday December 3rd.  Thanks for all your help and keep it up!  The amazing part of our donation collection is that we are immediately redistributing the coats back to kids in need throughout the Douglas County Schools.

Our goal for this year is to collect 10,000 coats!

Last year, Coats for Kids collected approximately 4000 coats in Douglas County.  All kinds of coats, new and used coats, big and small coats.   Almost 3000 coats were given to North Douglas Elementary School and other organizations who help people in need such as Douglas County Foster Care Program, The Warehouse of Hope, and local hospitals. The other coats were distributed to orphanages throughout the Ukraine
during the winter.

If you would like to help make a difference by donating your new or gently used coats, please drop off your donations at the Coats for Kids donation bin at your local Douglas County school or at any location below.

We will be collecting coats through December 10, 2010.  Thanks for helping us keep kids warm this winter.

Painting Projects

• #1 Douglas Senior Center Project #1 – Inside painting project: 2 rooms and a ladies room to be painted.
• #1 Douglas Senior Center Project #2- Exterior painting project: 6 benches, 3 small porches with stairs, 1 wooden awning, and some railing needs to be painted.
• #14 Share House Project #1: Interior Painting:  There are 2 bedrooms that need painting.

Family Projects

• #14 Share House Project #2: Babysitting:  Babysitting for children while house is being painted.
• #13 Shoe box project for Homeless – Children from X-Kids will fill pre-bought plastic containers with personal supplies and food to take to homeless.
• #27 Hospice Care - One on one time with the residents with activities like Bingo, checkers, and planting flowers & veggies. They have a salon with all the supplies needed and would like for some girls to do resident’s nails.
• #11 Woodie Fite Center Project #2: Sheppard’s Garden: Help elderly with gardening.
• #19 Douglasville Nursing Home – Visit one on one and in groups with nursing home residents.
• #18 Douglas County Foster Care Association – Provide Birthday Cake and Party for Foster Children.
• #21 Douglas County Animal Shelter – Volunteers are needed to walk dogs, clean cages and bathe dogs (if weather permits).  Must love animals and children must be accompanied by an adult.

People in Need Projects

• #3 Fowler Homes – Vial Project – Interview the residents and obtain a list of medications, primary care physician, and who to contact in an emergency. For this project must be able to print clearly and be able to walk a good distance.  All minors have to be accompanied by an adult.
• #12 Helping the Homeless – Wear work clothes and comfortable shoes/boots and be prepared to clean up area (woods) where homeless live & take food and shoe boxes filled by X-Kids.  Must be able to rake, use a shovel and haul trash.
• #15 The Pantry – The Pantry will be finishing up a food drive and will need food sorted and stacked.  Wear comfortable clothing.  Must be able to pickup boxes and stack food.
• #16 Hope Project #1: Pick-up trash and clean-up on Grady Street, & paint sign on Grady Street
• #16 Hope Project #2:  Tear out and remove carpet from Hope Project building
• #17 Faith In Action – Two men crews to pick-up donated furniture and appliances from donors and distribute them to those who need them.

Specialty Projects – Construction

• Various Home Repair Projects at homes for elderly – There are 7 homes that are in need of home repair.  Roofing, plumbing, electrical work, repairing decks, etc.

Outdoor work Projects

• Various Landscaping Projects at homes for elderly – There are 8 homes that need general yard work – leaves to be cleaned up, bushes trimmed, fallen branches and sticks picked up, and grass cut, etc.

ONE DAY Event Staff

• #22 Volunteer Support/Runners – Stay at the church and assist wherever needed:  Gofer, deliver lunch to work sites, volunteer table check-in, hand out T-Shirts, take water and supplies to work sites as needed, fill in at worksites as needed. Including:
  • Registration & Support Staff
  • Lunch Delivery
  • Parking Lot Team
  • Setup/Tear down Team

It only takes ONE DAY to love our community like never before.

Our city, Douglasville, is full of neglect, abuse, hurt, poverty, and despair.  ONEDAY will allow volunteers from all over this city to help those in need in our community. On Saturday, May 1st, hundreds of volunteers will take on projects all over our community. Projects will range from skill specific projects to projects that can involved your entire family.

We have partnered with multiple organizations that are committed to helping those in need through West Georgia.  Our goal is to use these great organizations to connect us to people who need help as we provide the volunteers.
