For our next give love away endeavor we want to help the children of Haiti.  We are partnering with the Hands and Feet Project, an orphanage in Jacmel, Haiti.  This was an area, like many, devastated by the earthquake.  The Hands and Feet orphanage was established in 2005 and houses 50 children and that number grows weekly.  We are collecting donations starting at $15. Donations of $25 or more will receive a free Least of These t-shirt. Give today and help change a life in Haiti!Unto Me Design Prev

Bringing Hope to Atlanta’s Flood Victims

Flood Relief Work Team – Thursday

We are partnering with www.hopeatl.com and Courageous Church who have created an amazing network of churches and volunteers on the ground helping people in need. Here is how you can help:

Our staff team will be traveling directly to Austell tomorrow to work with Courageous Church and the HopeATL team. We will meet at Crossroads at 8:15am and travel to Ewing Road Baptist Church (4699 Ewing Road in Austell) for a 9:00am meeting. We will dispurse into work teams from the school.

If you can join our team tomorrow, please let me know so I can be expecting you. If you are coming tomorrow, need you to wear a long sleeve shirt and pants with shoes you don’t mind ruining (also bring some work gloves!).

Here is a list of tools you can bring with you:
ALL tools required to demolish and build a home (hammers, carpet knives, exacto knives, screw drivers, saws, drills, bits, crowbars, wrenches, measuring tape, levels, sledgehammers, etc.)
Pressure Washers to clean mold, sewage, mud, muck, etc. off of homes

If you cannot make it during the week, we are hoping to have hundreds -maybe thousands- of people at Clarksdale Elementary this Saturday at 9am. There is so much work to do. Thanks for giving love away.

New Playground for NDES

Imagine if recess was not a highlight of a child’s day at school. Imagine if the playground at your school regularly had over 45 children but was only designed for about 20 children. Imagine if teachers had no place to sit and relax for a moment while children played. Imagine if disagreements and arguments regularly broke out because children just did not have enough engagement on the playground. Hard to imagine but that WAS the situation for North Douglas Elementary School.

God, however, imagined something very different! Thanks to some amazing generosity from Playland (a playground company in Carrollton), North Douglas Elementary School has more than doubled the size and play capacity of its playground. Not only did they add a huge new play area, they surprised the school with six new swings! It was an amazing completion to the playground landscaping project began by Crossroads and Team Jesus at the beginning of the school year. Check out the video below to see the first children to enter the new playground.

We are still needing to raise about $1500 to cover additional costs for the North Douglas project. If you would like to give, please contact Kurt Dean at 678-370-0555 or kdean@xroadschurch.net.

Super Saturday at the Pantry

September 26

Our next Give Love Away outreach will involve feeding families in our community on September 26. The Pantry (our community food partner) has been allocated enough food from Atlanta Community Food Bank to feed 500 families on this particular weekend. For this event, we are going to need over 150 Crossroads volunteers! Crossroads volunteers will be giving away food, directing traffic, and entertaining children as their families wait to receive their food. Please visit guest services on September 13 or September 20 to volunteer.

A message from Fran Davis, principal at North Dougals Elementary School

Wow! I just did a walk-through around the school and saw the
playground. It looks wonderful! I’m not sure how they did it all in
such a short time but they did an amazing job! Please pass along our
sincere thanks and overwhelming excitement. The supplies arrived and
let me say that God’s timing is always perfect. The teachers are so
appreciative. We hope that you all know what an incredible difference
you’ve made in the lives of our staff, our students and their families.

Sincerely,
Fran Davis

Teacher touched by Give Love Away

I just wanted to say that this sermon today really touched close to home. I am a teacher in a Title I school in Villa Rica and I have personally seen and worked with children that come from very harsh conditions. What the church has done for this school in Douglas County is amazing. You should rest assured that the students and teachers will be very greatful. I was also very happy to hear about the winter jacket drive, as I have seen so many students come to school without proper shoes, socks, coats, etc. We often try to pull together as teachers to get our students the bare necessities. You should see the look on their faces when they are handed a jacket when its cold outside- priceless. I am also sure, the many of those teachers feel a sense of relief knowing their students will have supplies. Teachers often try and scramble and get together whatever they can, knowing that many students will not be able to bring things with them to school. It is hard sometimes, to not be able to do all that you want for all of your students; especially in the face of economic uncertainty.

I am not sure where Give Love Away is headed, but I passionately believe that by helping the schools and the youth you not only touch the children, but their families as well. It is such a great investment. We had a church support our school this past year in helping provide backbacks of heathly snacks and food that could be sent home with students whom we had identified as having severe need; meaning these children may not be eating on the weekends. You could see the relief on their faces those Fridays they received their backpacks. Towards the end of the school year, the pantry had run out of food, so the teachers and faculty pulled together to continue filling the bookbags. I believe it made a difference in those childrens’ lives.

I just wanted to say that I believe this contribution will change many lives. And hopefully we will be able to change one school at a time.

Give Love Away – Packing Day

Have you ever seen 400 plus backpacks filled with school supplies? Today, Crossroads Church packed over 400 backpacks full of school supplies. It was an amazing day! Tomorrow, we will be delivering the backpacks to North Douglas Elementary School. Keep checking back for more info as we give love away!
